Whether air measurements need to be taken at workplaces will depend on a variety of factors, such as the type of hazardous material, the quantity of material, the activity to be carried out, the assessment of the risk potential, etc. Furthermore, your personal concerns about not feeling well or the presence of odors, mold, moisture damage, suspected presence of asbestos, etc. in your building, house or living environment may be a good reason to have an air measurement procedure performed in order to identify pollutants or biological substances.
Air measurements will be conducted in conformity with recognized procedures as described in the recommendations of the VDI 4300 series (interior areas), BGI 505 (workplaces) and with reference to the current standard on building biology testing (sleeping areas, living quarters). The number and the location of the measuring points will be based on the applicable legal provisions and the practical experience of Andreas Stefan Bartsch – AB GM, and will be agreed with you.
Air measurements may be required for the following reasons:
- Conducting measurements in order to identify hazardous materials and/or pollutants, mold fungus, bacteria, or mites;
- Asbestos air measurements in power plants or industrial plants
- Measuring the exposure at workplaces, in rooms and buildings;
- Performing short-term measurements at workplaces;
- Conducting measurements in order to determine the average layer thickness at workplaces;
- Measuring the levels of substances in order to compare them to the respective limit values at workplaces;
- Measurements accompanying ongoing rehabilitation or remedial measures;
- Final clearance measurements following the cleaning, rehabilitation and/or remedial measures;
- Performing measurements (to a limited extent) in order to identify the presence of odors.
If notable concentration levels of hazardous substances or pollutants are found in the room air, the relevant sources need to be identified.
